A “Driving Vision News” Automotive Lighting Event
Featuring Scott Fladhammer showcasing NEW ASYST Thermoplastic Heat Sink Technology
From June 11th to the 12th, ASYST Technologies exhibited at the 31st DVN Lighting Workshop in the Detroit, Michigan area. The DVN Workshops are held worldwide multiple times a year and feature leading automotive lighting suppliers, customers and OEMs who gather to address major topics driving the automotive market.
The Detroit event attracted 170 companies and 14 different automakers. Major topics discussed included challenges for US Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB), increased interest in lit-up logos (facilitated by less-stringent regulations), and other new and upcoming innovative technologies. This event was the first time in DVN Workshop history that night-drive demonstrations were performed on an officially closed road for the event. Many attendees enjoyed the new night-drive feature and look forward to seeing these demonstrations incorporated at other DVN Workshops.
For ASYST, our highlight of the Workshop centered around presenting our plastic molded Heat Sink Technology. Our very own Scott Fladhammer, Director of R&D spoke to hundreds of people about our innovative technology and value it brings to our current and future customers.
Our plastic molded Heat Sink Technology can be used for exterior lighting (Headlamp, Tail Lamp, Fog and DRL) as well as interior lighting, where an LED requires a Heat Sink for cooling its electronics. The ASYST design uses Covestro’s Makrolon TC resin for the molded Heat Sink bracket, allowing both weight and cost savings. Using ASYST insert molding expertise, we have the capability of molding the LED board directly onto the Heat Sink, providing further cost savings and heat transfer capability.
Another product that received great attention was our ASYST Vehicle Headlamp Aiming Device (VHAD). For ADB Head Lamp applications, ASYST has developed a VHAD which will allow horizontal aim systems to be compliant to U.S. Federal Regulations, a large need amongst our customers. The ASYST VHAD can integrate with any Tier 1 aiming strategy and packaging space.
At our booth, attendees could find updated branding, new products, and new sales leaders. In addition to our featured Heat Sinks, we shared other products from our global lighting portfolio such as Headlamp Aiming Adjusters, Leveling Motors, Ball Sockets, and Tail Lamp Fasteners, which are used by our Tier 1 customers worldwide. Our global footprint helps us design, develop, and produce world-class engineered plastic solutions and automated systems for many leading manufacturing companies.
To help grow our footprint we recently added two team members to our sales team – Jayson Ryan (left) and Jason Trotter (center). We are excited for the growth opportunities our team will bring to ASYST and look forward to showcasing our innovative product lineup again at the next DVN event in China later this year.
